Finding the Absolute Value

In mathematics, | | is used to represent absolute value, as in | -5| = 5 or | x - 3|. The calculator doesn't have these | | symbols. Instead it uses some special keys to accomplish the same thing. To find the | -5 | on the calculator, first press the MATH key. The first screen below is the MATH menu. Four menus are actually available across the top of the calculator screen. While MATH is highlighted, press the RIGHT ARROW once to highlight NUM. That screen is shown as the second one below. Notice 1:abs( is currently highlighted. That is the desired selection, so press ENTER. Next enter -5, close the parentheses, and press ENTER. The last screen below shows the results.
