In order to Trace a function, a graph must already be displayed on the screen. To learn how to enter and graph a function, go to Graphing a Function. Now enter and graph = to obtain the following graph:
Once a function has been graphed, press the TRACE key and the screen will appear as shown below:
Note: The function formula appears in the upper left corner. At the bottom of the screen the X and Y coordinates of the current location of the trace pointer are displayed. The pointer itself is hard to see, but it is at (0,1). This point will be flashing on the screen.
Use the RIGHT ARROW key to move the trace pointer along the graph in a manner that increases the X value. Note that the trace pointer is currently at about (2.55, 4.88).
Use the LEFT ARROW key to move the trace pointer along the graph in a manner that decreases the X value.
Note that the X and Y values at the bottom of the display show that the trace pointer is currently at about (-2.55,-2.88).
