The calculator has a specific key for entering a square, i.e., an exponent of 2. This key is indicated below:

It is important to remember that in squaring a negative number, the negative must be inside of parentheses. Notice the difference between negative 2 squared and quantity negative 2 squared as entered below:

Other exponents may be entered using the exponent key key. For example, 5 to the fourth is entered as 5 ^ 4.

Warning: When the x squared key is pressed, only the power appears on the screen. In order to enter , first press key , then press key .

If there is more than one term or factor in the exponent, enter all of them without pressing RIGHT ARROW. This will place all the terms or factors in the exponent. For example, 52+3 must be entered as

Note: If you are using an older calculator, you will have to place ( ) around the 2 + 3.
